Heart Check is the theme for our stewardship drive for the 2012 general budget. The general budget funds the mission and ministry of our congregation. Each is asked to check their heart and decide what gifts and resources can be shared to sustain and strengthen our work to northeast Indianapolis.

Biblical giving comes from the heart—a heart for God, a grateful heart, and a generous heart. When you check your heart, what do you find? Jesus said, “Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also” (Mt. 6:21). What do you find with your heart check? What do you treasure?

Congregations must also check their collective hearts.  What ministries to do we treasure? Each year, based upon the congregation’s pledged commitment, we check our heart and ask:

  • How much do we need to fund the mission of our church?
  • How will we use prioritize to use well the generous gifts of God’s people?
Pledged commitments allow congregations to do their heart check, to carefully allocate the resources generously offered.

“Everyone should give whatever they have decided in their heart.” Everyone includes you and us -- you individually and us together as a church. May we check our hearts and find that we treasure God’s ministry and mission.  "How much is enough?" Is is the over arching question for our 2011 stewardship campaign. If God has blessed you with abundance, you will always have enough. Recognizing this frees you to share abundantly in the good work of the church.

    Questions and Answers

What is needed from members this year?
In order to maintain our current program and ministries in two locations, Geist Christian Church needs a weekly average of $52..00 from each member household in 2012.

    How is that figure determined?
The weekly average needed is determined by dividing the active households of our congregation by the anticipated budget. Some will be able to meet or exceed the average; others will not. Each are encouraged however to become a percentage giver, growing toward or adopting the biblical challenge to tithe 10 percent.
