Even as we continue our commitment of hurricane recovery mission trips this fall, closer to home Geist Christian mission outreach efforts are focused on flood victims recovery efforts.

INDIANA FLOOD RELIEF
More than 12,000 Indiana families have applied for federal disaster relief after the early June floods. It could take many of those families more than a year to get back into their homes due to the damage.

We have joined with the Indiana Disaster Relief Office to help Hoosiers in need, collecting supplies for clean-up efforts and organizing volunteer opportunities.

Requested clean up items include: mops, brooms, rakes, snow shovels, rubber (dishwashing) gloves, rags, sponges, disinfectant cleaning products and small laundry detergent bottles. Items can be brought to the church and will be delivered to the city’s Disaster Relief Warehouse (volunteer drivers are welcomed!).

Service work is needed at the Disaster Relief Warehouse on the northwest side of Indianapolis. Volunteers (18 and older) are needed for shifts Monday through Friday (9am-1pm or 1-5 pm). Snacks or dinner will be provided. Day and weekend trips to provide hands-on assistance are in the works as well.

Following the Gulf Coast hurricanes of 2005, Geist Christian Church joined the Office of Disciples Volunteering to be part of the recovery work. Our church’s ministry is called “Partners in Comfort” … and those partners are still needed.

                  August 9 – 16:              Slidell LA
                  September 13 – 20:      Gulfport MS
                  October 11 – 18:          Covington LA
                  November 1 – 8:          Slidell LA

Men and women (15 yrs +) are welcome; no previous experience needed, only a willing spirit! Trips leave on a Saturday and return the following Saturday, with lodging provided at host churches, and all meals, materials, and transportation paid from our church Mission Fund.
